Hello and welcome back to the blog here at Woods to Wedges, the best golf store in Western New York. Now that it’s starting to get a cool crisp in the air, you’re probably not going to be thinking about golf too much. But that makes this such a good time to get yourself fitted clubs!
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to golf club fitting. A professional club fitter can help you before even working on your swing. Instruction is obviously more helpful than a fitting, but you would be shocked at the improvement you see from just using different equipment. Fitting and instruction should blend together almost seamlessly. Ideally, your teacher and club fitter are one in the same person.
Nearly every club manufacturer out there has a line for people who hook or slice the ball. Taylormade’s driver line that helps reduce hooks is the Plus. Another example would be Callaway, whose similar line would be Triple Black Diamond. We can spend all day just listing the different brands and their lines to aid people who have awkward shots, be it hooks, slices, etc. All those models and lines can get confusing! If you’re not properly fit, then how do you know you’ve even found the right club model?
Gone are the old days of regular, stiff, senior, and extra stiff being the only choices. Today, modern steel golf shafts come in gram weights ranging from 45-130 grams. Some shafts have steps that others lack. The job of your golf club is to produce a high exit velocity and a good launch angle of the ball when struck. A trained, professional fitter can remove a lot of the hook or slice from your shot from the club alone.
