Utilizing Your Personalized Golf Coaching To The Fullest Extent in Buffalo, NY

W2W Nov 23

Hello and welcome back to the blog here at Woods to Wedges Buffalo! Woods to Wedges is Buffalo’s leading golf outlet, lesson, and club fitting provider! Here on the blog, we like to give you some golf hints and tips to improve your game. Today, let’s dive into getting the most out of your personalized golf coaching here in Buffalo!

Setting Your Golfing Goals in Buffalo

Setting healthy, achievable goals in life is a major component to success. It’s no different on the golf course! Here at Woods to Wedges, with our expert golf instructors, you’ll recognize and be able to set goals for yourself to improve your golf game.

It’s important to identify your strengths and weaknesses so you know where to focus on the most for improvement. Setting different goals for different times of the year helps you not to get too stuck on one thing and burn out on the sport entirely. Remember, golf is supposed to be fun above all else.

When setting goals it’s important that your goal is coming from a positive place, like “I want to take a stroke off my game”, rather than a negative frame like “I don’t want to hook/slice every shot”. Your goal also should be specific, and something important to you. A specific, personally important goal is easier to visualize and build the steps to achieving it.

Establishing Realistic Expectations

Improvement isn’t necessarily a linear path, especially in golf. You can have a round where you’re hitting par on almost every shot, then the next time you head out you’re 2 over every hole. There can be factors that are outside of your control, such as the wind picking up unexpectedly. Focus on what you can influence and choose goals that are realistic expectations. You might not add another 150 yards to your drive, but you can land on the fairway with more consistency, for example.

The Buffalo Advantage: Year-Round Opportunities for Improvement

Even though our climate here involves several months where you can’t get out to the course, you can still practice year-round with some planning! In the summer, you obviously have outdoor driving ranges, the course, and real grass greens to practice on. In the offseason, it’s important to consider indoor golf practice opportunities. No matter the season, a new student assessment with Woods to Wedges includes your coach taking the time to evaluate your entire game and give you a diagnosis of what’s causing your swing woes.

Winter Golf Simulations and Indoor Training

In the wintertime, we have to pivot from hitting the links at the call of the sun to finding time to practice indoors. Over at the Wehrle Golf Dome, our studios are private and state-of-the-art. These teched-up spaces house a Trackman4 launch monitor, muti-cam video, and SAM PuttLab system to ensure that every aspect of your game is evaluated and to target areas of improvement.

The Role of Professional Instruction

There’s no substitute for the eye of a seasoned golf instructor, especially when they’re seasoned in the unique contours and conditions of Buffalo’s golf landscapes. Here at Woods to Wedges, our certified instructors aren’t just masters of the game; they’re savvy navigators of Buffalo’s fairways and greens. Their local knowledge can be the key to unlocking a course strategy that reduces your handicap and increases your love for the game.

Professional instruction goes beyond simple tips and tricks. It’s about building a relationship with someone who can identify the subtle nuances in your swing that you might miss. This kind of insight is invaluable, as it can lead to rapid improvement and a deeper understanding of the game. This advantage can foster lasting changes in your game, rather than a short-term fix. Whether it’s adjusting your grip on the club or aligning your shoulders, our instructors’ recommendations are always informed by years of experience and a deep well of local golfing knowledge.

One-on-One Attention

At Woods to Wedges, we believe in the power of personalized focus. That’s why we emphasize one-on-one attention in each coaching session. When you have the undivided attention of an instructor, every minute is an opportunity to learn and grow. It’s not just about correcting a stance or perfecting a swing—it’s about creating a space where you feel seen, supported, and able to focus entirely on your game.

In these one-on-one sessions, our instructors tailor their teaching to suit your unique learning style. They celebrate your strengths, address your weaknesses, and guide you through personalized drills that can transform your game. It’s this kind of dedicated attention that makes each lesson a stepping stone to becoming the golfer you aspire to be—and it’s all part of the premium golfing experience we offer right here in Buffalo.

Remember, an improvement on the golf course starts with dedication off the course—and our professionals are here to guide you every step of the way.

Custom Club Fitting in Buffalo

Custom golf club fitting here in Buffalo can’t be easier than with our Elite-level club fitting process. We work from a manufacturer-agnostic approach, which means we don’t promote any particular brand, rather we focus on maximizing your success with the perfect fit. Our Professional Certified Club Fitters utilize the Trackman 4 again here to ensure the best club for you is recommended.

We don’t only use Trackman, since you’ll probably be looking for a putter too to complete your set. For getting a perfect putter fit for your game, we utilize SAM PuttLab to analyze every aspect of your stroke. Then our trained and certified fitters can recommend the proper specs for your putter to get the best results.

Practice Makes Permanent: Drills and Exercises

Maybe you can’t make your way over to the studio for private lessons as often as you’d like. That’s where indoor, at-home drills come in! When you’re setting up at home, it’s probably better to focus on your short game. That way, you don’t have to worry about breaking anything made of glass, ceramic, etc.

Maybe you want to practice your play with irons. Fear not, for here’s a quick at-home drill you can perform without a ball! All you need is your clubs, a towel, and enough space. Set a towel up about 6 inches behind where you’d set your ball, and take some swings where you aren’t hitting the towel going back or coming down on the ball. This drill should help you control the low point of your swing.

Measuring Your Progress

You can track your progress in a multitude of ways! From checking back your recorded sessions with our professional instructors, to simply having a pen and paper and manually writing down things like stroke count at the end, farthest drive distance, how often you’re landing on the fairway, etc. There are many ways to do it, some just have more data points and expert analysis than others.
